Choose an edge case that tests real behaviour
- Basic records: six consistent fields with sequential IDs and a boolean flag. CSV and TSV include a header row in addition to the requested data rows.
- Unicode: checks whether an importer preserves accented and Devanagari characters rather than replacing them.
- Quoted fields: includes embedded separators, double quotes and line breaks. A parser that splits every line on a comma will not read these records correctly.
- Empty values: leaves email and notes empty in every third record, useful for testing optional fields.
- Nested JSON: puts contact fields inside a profile object and includes a tags array. This tests object access and flattening assumptions.
Know exactly what you are downloading
Names and addresses are synthetic; emails use example.com. The same settings produce the same text. JSON uses typed booleans and numeric IDs; CSV and TSV contain text fields that your importer must interpret. The row setting controls records, not an exact file size. Actual bytes appear after generation.
A practical import test
- Start with 10 basic rows and confirm the header mapping.
- Repeat with Unicode and quoted fields. Check the values after import, not just whether the operation succeeds.
- Test empty fields and your application’s required-field rules.
- Increase the row count only after correctness checks pass. Use the format-specific size pages when testing a byte boundary.
Generation is limited to 50,000 records to keep this in-memory tool practical on ordinary devices. For larger byte-sized fixtures use the existing sample-file generator. This tool does not submit data to your application or measure its performance.
