This page explains the cookies and similar technologies used on SampleTestFiles. It should be read together with the Privacy Policy.
What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store. It is sent back on later requests, which lets a site or an advertising service recognise the same browser again. Local storage is a similar browser feature that keeps data on your device without sending it with every request.
What this site itself stores
The site's own code sets no cookies. It stores one item in local storage:
| Name | Type | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
stf-theme | Local storage | Remembers whether you chose the light or dark appearance | Until you clear site data |
This item is created only if you use the appearance switch, and it never leaves your browser.
Cookies set by advertising
The site is funded by Google AdSense. When advertisements are shown, Google and its advertising partners set and read cookies in order to deliver ads, limit how often you see the same ad, measure results, prevent fraud and, where you have agreed, personalise the ads you see.
The cookies most commonly involved are:
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Typical lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
__gads, __gpi | Google, on this site's domain | Ad delivery, frequency capping and measurement | Up to 13 months |
__eoi | Google, on this site's domain | Security and fraud prevention for ads | Up to 6 months |
IDE | doubleclick.net (Google) | Ad delivery and personalisation | Up to 13 months in Europe, 24 months elsewhere |
test_cookie | doubleclick.net (Google) | Checks whether the browser accepts cookies | 15 minutes |
Google may change the cookies it uses. Its current list is published at How Google uses cookies.
Consent
If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you are shown a consent message before advertising cookies are used, and you can accept, refuse or choose by purpose. You can reopen that message at any time using the privacy settings link it adds to the page.
How to control cookies
- In your browser. Every browser lets you block or delete cookies, for all sites or for particular ones. Blocking cookies does not stop the site from working.
- Google advertising. Turn off personalised ads at Ads Settings.
- Other advertising vendors. Use aboutads.info/choices or youronlinechoices.eu.
