Configuration sample files
YAML, TOML and INI files for testing configuration loaders, linters and converters.
Formats in this category
| Format | What it is | Sizes |
|---|---|---|
| YAML sample files.yaml application/yaml | Human-friendly data serialisation that relies on indentation. The format of most infrastructure configuration. | 1 KB to 1 MB |
| TOML sample files.toml application/toml | A configuration format with explicit types and sections, used by Rust, Python and many tools. | 1 KB to 1 MB |
| INI sample files.ini text/plain | Simple key = value settings grouped into sections. Old, informal and still everywhere. | 1 KB to 1 MB |
| JSON sample files.json application/json | The standard data format of web APIs: objects, arrays, strings, numbers, booleans and null. | 1 KB to 10 MB |
| XML sample files.xml application/xml | Structured, self-describing documents built from nested elements and attributes. | 1 KB to 10 MB |
About these files
Configuration formats look simple and hide many edge cases: implicit typing in YAML, table arrays in TOML and the complete absence of a standard for INI.
These samples use the main features of each format with ordinary, predictable values, so they make a sound baseline before you test the awkward cases.
Ready-made samples
Hand-designed files with realistic content or a specific edge case.

What to test
- CI/CD pipelines
Fixtures for build, test and deployment pipelines, with checksums for verification.
- Software development
General-purpose fixtures for building, debugging and demonstrating software that reads or writes files.
- File parser testing
Well-formed files and deliberate edge cases for testing code that reads CSV, JSON, XML, PDF and more.
