1 KB glTF sample file
A glTF file of exactly 1,024 bytes. It is a valid GL Transmission Format file, generated for this site and checked with an independent parser. Use it wherever you need a 1 KB sample, test or dummy glTF file.

What is in this file
A single mesh of 9 vertices and 8 triangles, with its vertex and index data embedded in the JSON as a base64 data URI, so the file needs no companion .bin. A "padding" string under the standard "extras" property brings the file to the exact size.

| Triangles | 8 |

| Buffers | 1, embedded as a base64 data URI |
| Materials and textures | None |

Where 1 KB matters
The smallest practical test file: 1,024 bytes, small enough to travel in a single network packet. These are the default limits a file of this size is useful for testing:
| System | Limit | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Ethernet | 1,500 bytes (typical MTU) | A 1 KB payload fits in one packet with its headers. |
| Browser cookies | 4,096 bytes per cookie | 1 KB is well inside the limit; the 5 KB sample is over it. |
Use this file for
- Smoke tests in CI that must run in milliseconds
- Testing 3D upload and web preview
- Checking loaders with embedded and external buffers
Testing notes for glTF
- A .gltf file often refers to separate .bin and texture files. Uploading the JSON alone gives a model with no geometry. The samples here embed their data, so one file is enough.
- glTF is Y-up and in metres, while STL and many CAD exports are Z-up and in millimetres. A converter that skips the adjustment yields a model lying on its side and a thousand times too large.

Download from the command line and verify
Fetch the file with curl, then compare its checksum with the SHA-256 value above.
curl -o sample-gltf-1kb.gltf 'https://www.sampletestfiles.com/downloads/gltf/sample-gltf-1kb.gltf'
sha256sum sample-gltf-1kb.gltf # Linux
shasum -a 256 sample-gltf-1kb.gltf # macOSOn Windows, run Get-FileHash sample-gltf-1kb.gltf -Algorithm SHA256 in PowerShell. A matching value proves that the download is complete and unaltered.

Questions about this file
- Is this file exactly 1 KB?
- Yes. It is 1,024 bytes, which is 1 KB in the binary units that operating systems and server limits use (1 KB = 1,024 bytes).
- What is inside the 1 KB glTF file?
- A single mesh of 9 vertices and 8 triangles, with its vertex and index data embedded in the JSON as a base64 data URI, so the file needs no companion .bin. A "padding" string under the standard "extras" property brings the file to the exact size.
- Do the glTF samples need a separate .bin file?
- No. The vertex and index data are embedded in the JSON as a base64 data URI, so each sample is a single self-contained file.
